Watch out, Virgin America, you've got a real charmer on board!

Tip for modern adulterers: If you’re planning to cheat on your wife of 10 years by awkwardly hitting on the model seated next to you on your flight out of Los Angeles, make sure she isn’t live-tweeting the entire miserable experience to her 13,000 followers.

Wow 36 whole hours from favebook to MeFi. We are getting slow, people.

I am not sure who I like least--Brian or Melissa, but none of this is really my business.

Huh. I just pretend I'm sleeping when shit like this happens. No more flirting, plus no upending another person's life because they fell off the wagon and acted like a douche.

She should have written the letter A on his forehead with a Sharpie while he was asleep.

What service/airline was she using to have internet connectivity in the air?

Odds are probably 50-50 that this is all contrived. The model at issue also Photoshopped a fake Powerball ticket to get attention earlier this year.

is there any reason to believe this is more real than her winning the powerball jackpot?

Denying everything but that he left the shades open during the flight.

Quite a few, but almost all of them are just GoGo Inflight.

Hmm. When I saw this in Facebook, the note had the same wording as this FPP. "modern adulterers", "planning to cheat", "awkwardly hitting on", "miserable experience".

Virgin America has wifi on the planes, and Echofon has a windows client.

He misspells "to" in his rebuttal. That shows a discomfort with "two," ie his marriage. A sure sign of adulterous intent.

Well, OK. Let me correct myself, DarlingBri. I should have said "whom" I like least.

also, she used to date anthony cumia (of opie and anthony) and had a similar dirty laundry airing at the end of that relationship.

Wait, how is she the bad guy?

Because smugness and a penchant for humiliating someone (including a bystander, i.e., his wife) aren't significantly more likable traits than those we're supposed to condemn him for, presumably.

It does lead you to wonder. I live in constant dread of someone thinking that I am hitting on them and then being appalled when I'm really just chatting idly and without intent. In particular, I worry when I talk to people who are younger and/or better looking than I am since they are often so used to getting hit on by creeps. This is one reason I don't talk to strangers very much!

um, my bs detector is humming a little here. this is definitely something that happens a lot, granted, but this seems a little too pat, a little too "tweets of stuff my dog/dad/sexy downstairs neighbor said".

When you are forced to sit next to someone on a plane, they may attempt to make conversation with (which I personally find infuriating). But even if their attempt at conversation is in poor taste, publicly sharing that with his real name attached seems really shitty.

Well, media, find the rest of the people on the plane and get to the bottom of this. CNN, you can do this!

all i know is that i would need a lot more then three heinekens to think that removing my wedding ring while in the bathroom is going to fool the chick i'm hitting on.

Oh -- my -- gah -- someone dropped the DRRRAMABOMB, y'all

Nthing the idea that this seems at best contrived, at worst the work of someone who's kind of a jerk and idly causing people problems for no real good reason I can see (from reading her own account of the "incident").
posted by kittens for breakfast at 4:48 PM on June 8, 2012

"Wait, how is she the bad guy?"

I found myself intensely disliking him and sort of liking her while reading this; but, really, she's much more in the wrong than he is. He (assuming this is all true) was dishonest with her about his marriage, and he is (probably) being dishonest and unfaithful to his spouse, but the last two are the couple's business. The first is hers and his business.

Giving enough details to 13,000 people to easily identify this guy takes violation of trust to another level and could likely create far more harm than anything that he did.

He's not in the right. He's in the wrong. But responsibility for wrongs is not zero-sum. That he's in the wrong doesn't absolve her from her own bad choices. And she made a bad, very self-indulgent choice. Like his, only worse.

What I don't get is why she didn't just say something like, "Hey, that's interesting. I think I'm going to read/sleep/do sudoku/etc now, thanks." They're both jerks.

Yeah, you'd think any model would have plenty of experience deflecting unwanted flirting.

I'm definitely of the mind that they both come out of this looking bad. Even assuming her version of the story is 100% true, I'm pretty sure that as a society we don't want to encourage moral vigilantism of publicly outing people who lie about their personal lives to strangers.
