There sure are a lot of us. Not to mention that there have been a lot of us. You might be surprised how many. We all know about the increasing world population, but it's interesting to compare the total, current, and past numbers; seeing 'em tick by like that reinforces it in a way that static numbers can't. My, how we've grown.

Looking at the maps and comparing 1985 and 2020, I wonder how the heck all those communities containing millions of people are going to suddenly spring up in the Rockies. I mean, I knew the real-estate boom in Aspen was problematic, but it can't be that bad...

human beings have, for the most part, lost their understanding and ability to co-exist with the life support system that is the eco-system. we are conducting a vast, un-controlled, experiment on the renewal systems evolved on this planet. so far the only one we haven't effected is the 'rock cycle' (not the bands-that-sound-like-the beatles-cycle, another one).
Here is a transcript of a television programme (includes pictures!) about what happens when the arrogance of man is given the opportunity to exhibit it's ignorance of nature. It is about the colonisation of Australia by europeans.
This all sounds most alarmist - but i assure you that minds far superior to mine have come to similar conclusions.
Do what you can, so that you can say something to your grand-children other than, 'well the media didn't make too much fuss about it until it was too late, so i didn't think about it'.
