2001 Young Inventors Awards Program winners announced. I'm really digging this pedal lawnmover and the direct water injector for plants.

simple design but genius. I wonder how many hardware companies are going to kick themselves over this one

trevor bayliss would be proud!
i share his opinion that invention should be 'taught' at schools on the national curriculum. children are full of ideas, most of which are perfected before the end of puberty. einstein said that he first considered the the absolute nature of the speed of light sitting on a hill, at the age of 17.
however, the pedal-powered lawnmower may need a bit of work yet. i seem to remember that lawnmowers used to be pushed 'by hand'. this all reminds me of a song by 'the happy flowers' called 'i threw my frisbee under the lawnmower and then lost my hand trying to retrieve it', or similar.

This tool is a toothpaste dispenser which only gives out the amount of toothpaste you want and wasting none.
My life is complete. No, really, kudos to these kids.

I thought most of the designs were silly, but it's absolutely wonderful to see young kids get involved in something like this. (which is the whole point)
As a cyclist, I like the lawnmower-bicycle idea the most.

My favorite:
"The function of this tool is to allow you to play catch with your dog without having to throw the ball yourself."
This is a kid who's going to go far in life, if he can get off the couch.
