Rio+20: The world is going to hell in a handbasket but we must protect our vital business interests.

Rio+20, the United Nations Conference on Sustainable Development, begins tomorrow, marking the 20th anniversary of the 1992 UNCED "Earth Summit". Twenty years ago we achieved the Convention on Biodiversity, the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (which led to the Kyoto Protocol) and Agenda 21 (with some resistance). This time, in the face of a massively declining biosphere, we have the USA arguing to remove all references to equity from the draft text, and generally seek to ensure the protection of plutocrats business interests.
