Well, at least it's out in the open now.

Indeed. Today's Republican Party, objectively against thinking.

That's just filler.

A friend had a good question: What exactly is a "fixed belief"?

If it's truly fixed, what's the danger in challenging it? Was it previously broken?

Protecting Active Military Personnel’s Right to Vote - We urge the Texas Secretary of State and the U.S. Attorney General to ensure that voting rights of our Armed Forces will neither be denied nor obstructed.

Obviously they are arguing that military service should be a path to citizenship for illegal aliens.

Ah, so that's what it was. I thought there was a smell of entitled jackasses coming from downtown a few weekends ago.

In the Texas GOP Logo, is that a bow? A curved blade? The worst gun ever?

Texas: we want the dumbest citizenry in the lower 48!

(Disclosure: as a Republican, I get what they're actually aiming at, but hoo doggies, they done missed that mark by a country mile. Lordy.)

I don't think you're quite understanding this Don't Ask Questions thing.

All debates about educational policy are based on the false belief that kids are paying attention.

Well, I'm glad to see that when I clicked the link I found the corporate sponsors before I found the actual platform.

Ha. Once again, Metafilter is going apoplectic over something it does not understand.

"Higher Order Thinking Skills" is a very specific type of educational regime that's the basis of many "standards-based" educational models. It's basically what No Child Left Behind was trying to implement across the board.

Yes, that's right. The Texas GOP just stated openly that it's against W's No Child Left Behind bill. Are we really going to get very upset about this?

Banning the Use of Red Light Cameras – We oppose the manner in which alleged vehicle violations are documented and fines levied against individuals without proof of their having been the driver of the offending vehicle and we call for the ban on Red Light Cameras in the State of Texas

Before you go all outragefilter, you should read the relevant part of the platform.
We oppose the teaching of Higher Order Thinking Skills (HOTS) (values
clarification), critical thinking skills and similar programs that are simply a relabeling of Outcome-Based Education (OBE) (mastery learning) which focus on behavior modification and have the purpose of challenging the student’s fixed beliefs and undermining parental authority.
The quote in the main post was edited (deceptively, in my opinion) to imply that this platform actually opposes critical thinking as a whole rather than a certain educational model. (Not that I agree with the GOP; I'm reading up on OBE before picking a side.)
