Something Clever About Star Warsteros or Something

I first saw this video and thought, "oh great, another Star Wars/Your Favorite Show mashup". I took the time to watch it, and I have to say I was moderately impressed. It didn't necessarily make me go "Squeeee!" but at least it didn't make me go "Meh", either.

This is cool, thought there is an important sense in which this is less interesting than the original. The lightsaber CG obscures how both Ned Stark and Jaime Lannister are using the flats of their swords to block and attack each others swords, which adds another interesting if often invisible layer of complexity to the duel.

I just noticed that right before Ned gets stabbed from behind he gives this wolfish grin -- as reluctant as he is at first he's starting to warm up and starting to enjoy this long awaited contest just as the Kingslayer has been all along.

So does this make incest canon in the Star Wars universe?

This does nothing to settle the Obi Won vs. Syrio Forell debate.

I've seen better sabers, not least Lord Vader after he took the black.

to block and attack each others swords

One of the things I hate about movie depicitons of sword fighting, showcased previously on MetaFilter.

This does nothing to settle the Obi Won vs. Syrio Forell debate.

Oh man, I had this discussion just the other day. IMO, Syrio, with all his talk of saying "Not today" to Death, with his amazing skill as a waterdancer and former First Sword of Bravos, would never pull a Kenobi and just allow himself to be struck down. "The First Sword of Braavos does not run," Syrio says. I would think that would logically include giving up and passively being executed.

I imagine he's probably fond of Arya as a student, but from his character's perspective, she's just another client. As far as fighting Ser Meryn Trant, I think if they were RPG characters on paper, Syrio would be much more technically skilled. Just look how easily he took down the standard guards accompanying Kingsguard Trant. After Trant destroyed the training sword, I think it's much more likely that Syrio picked up a sword from one of the fallen guards and continued fighting.

But heck. I don't know. If Syrio refused to retreat, and Ser Trant is clearly seen later on, not overtly dead or even wounded, I don't know how you might resolve that. "The First Sword of Braavos does not run."

More than The Empire Strikes Back did?

I ran this through isitold.com to see how much play it was getting, and it said: "REALLY OLD. This has been tweeted 302 times, and the first time was four days ago." Even in memeland, is a 300-tweeted, four-day old YT clip really a shameful thing to send to a Game of Thrones fan? I beg of thee.

Winter coming is.

The folks at Castle Hoth know this already, of course. And so they stay vigilant for signs of the dreaded White AT-AT Walkers.

I am now envisioning some piece of fan fic in which Tony Stark, son of a Stark father and Lannister mother (that's where he gets his gold from), gives up his licentious ways and rediscovers his honor. This culminates with him defending the realm from the White Walker menace while designing a new suit of totally awesome armor for knights.
