Ouya is a box what puts the games on the teevee

We don't like it when people pay $60 for a game and feel cheated. We don't like it when developers can't work on a platform because it's too expensive.
Ouya [wiki] is a crowd-funded project aimed at bringing to market an Android-based open-source video game console that will purportedly retail for $99 USD. With an intial Kickstarter goal just shy of one million dollars, it has already raised $3.5m with four weeks yet to go.

This post was deleted for the following reason: unlike kotaku, you can't link to kickstarter or kickstarter-by-proxy threads here. Neat idea, wait til funding closes. -- jessamyn

I wish these guys and the Pandora guys would get together and make a non-Android, Linux, free device that didn't cost an arm and a leg.

I saw speculation on Slashdot that this would change absolutely everything in gaming as developers abandon traditional consoles in favor of open-source because of its inherent superiority.

They actually seemed to be serious.

While I support this project (financially, I mean), if memory serves there's a firm rule about posting active Kickstarter projects.

Sounds like a great way to get crappy Android games on a tv with a controller not designed for those kinds of games and support an afterthought. Also I am pessimistic about the economics behind game development, will people be willing to spend even $5 for a quality game? Will they sell even 1 million 'consoles'? I don't see how that supports quality game development.
