This kid is delightful and I am delighted.

Ok, that was pretty great. The Snuggie thing really takes it to a new level.

Also I would like to know what a 'boof' is.

That was excellent. Beyonce always inspires the best cover videos. I hope that kid knows how great he is.

The production quality was better than a lot of professional music videos! Made me smile!
posted by HuronBob at 10:31 AM on July 18, 2012

That kid is going to have a gig producing professional music videos within a month. And I am happy about that.

GOD BLESS SUMMER VACATION, and I fucking love this song. Top notch kid, top notch.
posted by Think_Long at 10:32 AM on July 18, 2012

Good grief. The production values in that fan video were off the hook!

I'd assume a "bouf" is a "bouffant", a hairdo. But you know, kids today with their crazy hair and their slang and their music... It's hard for an old fogie like me to stay hip.

So good! I was expecting this to be less completely good. I was wrong.
posted by sweetkid at 10:34 AM on July 18, 2012

Ug, I have the exact same snuggie but it just got tangled up in my over-stuffed washing machine and broke the thing instead of helping me be awesome on the internet.

That was so impressive and amusing that I voluntarily made it through a Beyonce song.

Yes it does, but it also means... other things.

This was the first time I've seen the Beyonce video, so I was getting quite the visual overload trying to watch both at the same time. Mesmerizing.

The kid did a great job.

This was the first time I've seen the Beyonce video

Oh, how I long for a 24/7 music video channel on my satellite service. I'd have it tuned in all the time! (And this wouldn't have also been my first time seeing this video, I'm sure.)
posted by hippybear at 10:42 AM on July 18, 2012 [1 favorite]

That was insanely accurate; I'm in awe of the precision he brought to the table. He was nailing everyone of her gestures, her facial movements- eyebrows, smiles, blinks- and postures. And the production quality! The color changes, transitions, everything. I was delighted, and I hate Rihanna's music.

It's pretty amazing that young people can have access to software and hardware that enables them to seamlessly emulate professional videos.

I totally agree it sounds like Beyonce's singing "my boof," but lyric sites are claiming she says "my boo," which makes a little more sense.

Some sort of... music and television... hybrid?! That's crazy, but that just might work!

Beyonce. I meant to type Beyonce.

Man, that's fucking embarrassing. I'll leave the thread now, kthx.

Video was great. Just wasn't expecting the song to be that goddamn awful.

Best. of. the. web. BAM!

You go, kid! I predict good things in your future.

Poor kid. God knows how many times he must have had to listen to that song to make the video....

Another delighted viewer here. That was delightful.

I LOVE the little sister filling in for the dancers.

Delightful.

This really made my morning much, much better -- thanks.

I was imagining how he had his friends help him with it and then imagined the possibility that maybe one of them thought THEY should be Beyoncé. But then I realized that, though I don't know much about this boy, that was probably an impossible scenario because anyone who really knows him at all probably can see that would be an argument they wouldn't possibly win.

Beyonce. I meant to type Beyonce.

I know, seriously. Who could hate Rihanna's music?!?

So, here's the thing: If you're Beyonce...how do you NOT fly this kid to every single concert you'll do this year? How do you NOT shower him with gifts and take him as your date to the Grammys and put him in the liner notes of your next album? When someone (a kid!) loves you this much, how do you restrain yourself from making all their dreams come true?

I had no spare time as a teenager. I was AP'ing it up.
posted by sweetkid at 12:01 PM on July 18, 2012

Also: You HAVE to love the fact that he included his friends in the video to help him.

You just know the conversation went something like this, "GODDAMMIT! That's NOT how they do it in the video! It's 'step, step, roll, arch, roll'! Get your shit together! This is Miss Beyonce!"

"...I'm eleven."

I was AP'ing it up.

As opposed to aping Beyonce?

Blood and bloody ashes, that was great. That's an incredibly piece of work to get the dancing and the gestures right, let alone film and edit it all and how old is this kid?

Sheesh—these kids today.

I've was just thinking the other day that I'd dearly love to do a fan rendition of Mina's 1974 TV performance of "Reza (Laia Ladaia)" if only I was friends with an orchestra and had access to a gigantic Italian TV theater where the audience is seated a hundred feet from the stage for some reason. Maybe I just need to learn how to do CGI. Sigh.

Seriously, though, this kid's made a great piece. I just hope he'll eventually take all that talent and do something with it that transcends inspired mimicry.

Even having seen the comments here, that was about a thousand times more charming than I expected it to be.

The kid stays in the picture, but Beyonce might just actually be queen of the entire universe. All with that smile, those eyes. Whoa.

According to the comments (I know I shouldn't read YT comments but the overwhelming positivity allowed me to skim) on FB Beyonce's seen the cover, said it was good. With a :) too. And his (if I can assume that the owner of the account is the star of this video cover) profile says he's 22! I knew he was older than he looked. Thanks so much for posting this; what a truly awesome cover.
