If the Body Parts of Individual People category or the List of Fictional Plants don't do it for you, you're sure to find something on Wikipedia's List of Lists or perhaps even the List of Lists of Lists. If none of that does the job, then give the List of Unusual Articles a try. (previously)

Okay, this post is great if for no other reason than it led me to this rather disturbing painting of the Circumcision of Christ Possibly NSFW due to Baby Jesus Dick.

Seriously, the expression on Baby Jesus's creepily adult face is what really makes it.

Also, a mostly-contextless line in the Unusual Articles article: "These islands have not been mistaken for submarines."

Good to know!

From the same list of Unusual Articles, that may be to their benefit.

I love dipping into these every once in a while. My favorite new discovery so far is the German coal seam fire that substantially predates Centralia, and continues to burn more than 300 years later.

Is THAT what that is?! I was wondering why it looked so weird. It's clearly had some magic worked on it, "enlarge person" for starters.

I can't decide if it's weirder that parking chairs get a wikipedia article, or that they're on the "unusual articles" list because parking chairs are totally normal, yo.

Parking chairs are totally alien to me.

I passed an enjoyable few minutes reading about the holy prepuce (and really, who doesn't enjoy stories about Jesus' foreskin?). There is not only the aspect of of up to eighteen different churches claiming to have the genuine article -- including two in Auvergne, which mist have caused a fair number of dark scowls across the street over the centuries -- but also the big controversy with the one the church decreed as the actual relic, the one presented to the pope by Charlemagne on his coronation day. Apparently the trail of evidence gets a little murky and two different churches spent much of the 19th century shouting down one another's claims to have it:
[I]n 1900, the Roman Catholic Church resolved the dilemma by ruling that anyone thenceforward writing or speaking of the Holy Prepuce would be excommunicated.[5]

Man, I got totally sucked into the Argument page for the "0.999... = 1" article linked from Unusual Articles. If you like MetaTalk, here are some other interminable arguments you might enjoy -- but you don't have to take my word for it.

Amusingly, we had the same 0.999... = 1 argument back in 2007, but we spent most of the discussion arguing about whether the phrase is "another think coming" or "another thing coming." Obviously the correct answer turned out to be "another think coming."

octothorpe: "The parking chair is a sacred symbol of my city."

"I didn't know octorhorpe was from Chicago" is what I said to myself this morning.

It's a title Pittsburgh can have as far as I'm concerned, but I'm not sure the rest of my city would give it up without a fight.

As for the remainder of the post, I, too, spent most of my yesterday morning wrapped up in the links within, and if I end up following through on the writing idea it inspired, I'll be sure to include 23 in my acknowledgements. (Given my track records on projects, don't hold your breath, but it was a fun way to spend a Sunday.)
