When I discovered AT, I had to be veeeeery careful about introducing it to my daughter. I knew if I put on too hard a sell she'd be turned off because it was a "Dad thing". Luckily she is awesome and she now loves it as much as I do, and we geek out together when we make Tree Trunks references and see the new Finn and Jake toys at Target. Also, can we now talk about Adventure Time? Did everyone see the recent "Sons of Mars" episode? If not, spoilers below: First of all, I love the Magic Man and what a dick he is. Turned all the water to hair. There were some really juicy details about the world of Ooo in this ep. You could see a giant chunk taken out of the Earth as Finn rocketed to Mars, and one of the facets of the Martian character was called Glob, which is a pseudo-curse word Finn and Jake use all the time. Was the Mushroom War fought between the Earth and Mars? End Spoilers

"Glob" isn't a curse word, Grob Gob Glob Grod is one of the major deities on Adventure Time; the other two being Abe Lincoln and the Cosmic Owl. Glob's name is used an expletive sometimes.

I sometimes wonder if The Mighty B would have been a hit on Cartoon Network - tight, funny writing with quirky stories and awesome characters, over-the-top art and animation style reminiscent of the best that Kricfalusi had to offer. Nickelodeon's too conservative, and has been for more than a decade, so when something genuinely new and fun pops up, it's quickly stifled.

God, I love Adventure Time. It's easily my favorite currently running show and one of my favorite TV shows of all time. And I don't have kids. I would love to see what the writers and artists could do without the constraints of "children's show for a major TV network." There are so many bits and pieces in the show and comic indicating a more mature work waiting to happen. And the music! Oh, the music!

And the music! Oh, the music! The impromptu rock band they form in the episode with the Door Lord is my favorite band of all time. The complicated relationship between PB and Marcelline is so deftly drawn, and the way it slides right over the surface of the show without being commented on or even noticed by Finn is such a perfect encapsulation of the cluelessness of being an twelve-year-old boy that it makes me ache with empathy. I'm looking forward to the "love triangle" being set up between the Flame Princess, PB and Finn.

Two things: 1. If you're a fan of the show, you should really check out Adventure Time comics . They really capture the spirit of the show, and there's always a second story by a guest artist like Aaron Renier. Make sure to read the footnotes! 2. Someone should make a list of cartoons that parents try to get their kids into. Before Adventure Time, it was Phineas and Ferb, and there's been Ren & Stimpy and Animaniacs and of course classic Looney Tunes. And Rocky and Bullwinkle.

The Disney "comedies" are pretty atrocious, though. If Zack and/or Cody begin to rear their heads in your home, you are better off just cancelling cable.

Yes! To all of this! This is exactly what I love about the show. It's enjoyable to kids on a surface level, but there's always all this deeper stuff underneath that adults can appreciate. People growing up on it now will be able to go back and see more in something they loved as children, as adults. And that's always a wonderful thing. ---> <3 Marceline. Pony is rapidly playing out, especially now that Lauren Faust has moved onto other things... and let's be frank, the Rule-34ism surrounding a funny-animal show aimed at little girls is completely out of hand. I don't think Faust had rampant, lewd objectification in mind when trying to do quality TV for girls. Some was inevitable, but when anatomically-correct plush toys start selling like hotcakes on ebay, there's something completely out of control, and it's unlikely to ever return to normal. This is where I think Super Best Friends is the right next step - it reclaims the characters from Rule 34 by using established costumes on ordinary, rather than idealized, body types. It's pretty genius.

This is not a PONY thread, but: Slap*Happy, there are those elements in the fandom, but I think it's only because it's hit a certain size where the background radiation has become noticable. And there are certain media figures who are making hay of it, particularly Howard Stern, who seems almost offended by bronies. The core brony community seems more amused by the Lyra plushie with the hole in back than aroused by it. (Example one - Example two - Know Your Meme report)

Publisher's Weekly had an article a while back about all the comics people involved with Adventure Time & The Regular Show (I guess Problem Solverz is no more, though). I love Adventure Time -- both the show and the comic (and Marceline and the Scream Queens comic miniseries is awesome, too, so far) and I'm delighted by its success. I don't feel the need to justify my interests to anyone, really, but there's still something kind of lonely getting excited by various obscure comic artists and not really being able to share that with the greater world. But now, I can say things like "Yeah, did you see that episode of Adventure Time the other week? Artist Jesse Moynihan worked on that!" and then point them to the comic, which is just full of awesomeness. I love that Pen Ward knew where to look for people to work on his show and I'm glad Cartoon Network basically seems to let him do what he wants. (How does Kid President not have a TV show yet, though?)
