I liked this bit from "Ask an Undiscovered Spider:"

"Half of Spiders Are Undiscovered."
—Behind every good spider is ... another spider.

Worth it for the unexpected murder in the last third, which made me laugh. Poor George.

Love these. I read The Hardy Boys and the Three Detectives religiously. When I finished all those, I reluctantly (at first) read Nancy Drew and she kicks all five of those boys' behinds.

My favorite modern quote about her comes from TV's Castle:
AGENT SORENSON: “Really? We’re going to waste time on the insights of Nancy Drew here?”

RICK CASTLE: “Is that supposed to be an insult? Because Nancy Drew solved every case.”
Damn right she solved every case.

I enjoy all of Ortberg's work, but I will not go to that link because I'll end up crying over The Return of Ghost again.

(I love The Hairpin!)

Not poor Bess? :)

Well, I was trying not to spoil it too much. Also, if I remember my limited exposure to Nancy Drew, Bess probably drove her to it.

You warned me. But yet I clicked it at work in an already sad mood.
