Obscure Star Wars Inspirations.Sometimes weak, sometimes spot-on, this site takes a fairly in depth look behind George Lucas' trilogy +1. Everything old is new again.

Regardling Silent Runnings [this is creepy for no real reason I can think of]

Trumball's method for creating his fantastically life-like robots was a carefully-guarded studio secret, but was eventually revealed to be amputees in plastic boxes.

Obviously, some of these links are a bit tenuous, but I did enjoy reading parts of the site. He doesn't take it TOO seriously, but he isn't making it a satirical or parody site either. As well, I like the easy colour scheme and the liberal use of pictures to back up some points.

He mentions Star Wars: The Magic of Myth as one of the sources he used...it was the book which went along with the Smithsonian exhibit on SW in '97. I think it's absolutely wonderful, contains great comparison pictures of old paintings/movie stills/Indonesian weapons/etc with SW ideas. Too early for Episode I info, but still a fascinating book...it made me into a respectful fan, rather than someone who just kinda remembered the movies from childhood.
