Ending The Campaign As We Know It

NBC and the Associated Press are reporting that this morning Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney will announce Rep. Paul Ryan of Wisconsin as his running mate.

Rep. Ryan has served in Congress since 1999 and is currently Chairman of the House Budget Committee. He is perhaps best known for a controversial budget plan: “The Path to Prosperity” helps spur job creation today, stops spending money the government doesn’t have, and lifts the crushing burden of debt.

Democrats claim the plan would end Medicare and Republican Newt Gingrich described the plan as "Right wing social engineering." In 2010 Ryan exchanged words with President Obama on budget issues at a Republican retreat. DNC political ads have previously used Romney's association with Ryan's budget as a line of attack.

Ryan has a B.A. in economics from Miami University (Ohio) where he also gave a commencement speech in 2009. Ryan worked as a Wienermobile driver for a brief period.

Paul Ryan has noted in the past that Ayn Rand has had significant influence on his political career, "But the reason I got involved in public service, by and large, if I had to credit one thinker, one person, it would be Ayn Rand." However, he has since distanced himself from those comments.

...and so the man with no consistent plan meets the man with a consistent and impossible plan. This is going to go swimmingly for us all.
