Isn't Giger pronounced 'Geeger'? Like, rhyming with meager? Yup. Back in the late 80s / early 90s, during some awards ceremony for his work on the Alien films, his ladyfriend who was accepting the award in his absence went off on the announcer who had pronounced it like 'Geiger'. Giger rhymes with eager, meager, and Pete Seeger.
