Snack! Snack! Snack! Munch! Music from the Minneapolis Y.M.C.A. related North Community Beats and Rhymes Program just released the video of the summer: kids rapping about Hot Cheetos & Takis, their favorite snack. If you can't get enough, their website has eight whole albums to listen to and download for free (the North Community link).

Flamin' Hot Cheetos are delightful when eaten with chopsticks.

These kids are fun. 1:24 is when things really blow up.

It's a trip. It's got a funky beat. And I can really bug out to it.

And of course I see Soulja Boi is partly to blame. Oh well. At least they look like they are having fun in the video.

Things I love about this video:

It sounds like they legitimately studied the inflections and mannerisms (flow) of famous rappers, and each tried to emulate one to some degree or another. The kid in the second verse is doing an admirable Jay-Z. The smallest of them may be the honest to god reincarnation of Ol' Dirty Bastard.

They are wearing jerseys, but not from pro teams. From their YMCA youth basketball team.

The beat sounds incredibly professional. It sounds like something Rick Ross would rap over.

"I've got snacks-on-snacks-on-snacks".

Not sure how I feel about both myself and an eight year old girl independently making the "snacks on snacks on snacks" joke...

"That's the problem with music these days. Why can't they rap about something more uplifting like raisins, peanut butter and celery? Or honey, cheese and apples?"

No, seriously, I'd be excited if the kids in my afterschool program could come up with something like this.

As always, Rembert Browne says everything that I wanted to say, but more articulately.
