It's a perfect storm of CanCon: Avril Lavigne and Chad Kroeger (of Nickelback fame) announced their engagement on Tuesday, taking their six-month relationship public for the first time. Kroeger and Lavigne (now collectively known as Chavril) met in February while recording a duet for Lavigne's upcoming fifth album.

Nickelback (and a little Avril Lavigne) discussed previously on Metafilter.

It's so beautiful. "Two houses, both alike in banality..."

All the world loves a lover, but my warmheartedness stops at actually listening to a Lavigne/Kroeger duet. Mazel tov, kids, and offa my lawn! And my radio!

Really needs a link to the Globe & Mail's extraordinary arts feature, which covered more than half a page of its slim little arts section in the print version this morning: "Is Chavril our own Brangelina?"

There may well be a time, not so long from now, when the print edition of the Globe & Mail ceases to be. It may be followed by a long slow fade of the whole institution into total irrelevance. This stunning pile of breathless tabloid prose and pseudo-colonial shoulder-checking will make for an excellent case in point when so many wonder why.

“'It was our fourth session in the studio,' [Lavigne] told Hello! Canada, 'and I walked in on Aug. 8 and Chad was scrapbooking.'"

Canada's National Newspaper, ladies and gentlemen.

If you play Nickelback backwards, you hear Satan. Even worse, if you play it forwards, you hear Nickelback.

Also, awful as this union might seem, it's still just a footnote to the evilest Canadian pairing of all time.

There's a file going around the Internet that claims to be the new Nickelback song. DO NOT CLICK IT! It really is the new Nickelback song.

Wow, did I take the wrong side of the over-under on how long this post would stick around.

I'm going to go ahead and admit that there's one Nickelback song I like. It's Figured You Out, which sounds like most (all?) Nickelback songs, but has dirty lyrics.
