If It Walks Like a Duck and Talks Like a Duck: Racism, Bigotry and the Death of Respectable Conservatism

In his essay, "If It Walks Like a Duck and Talks Like a Duck: Racism, Bigotry and the Death of Respectable Conservatism", Tim Wise provides the longest list of links pointing out the GOP's racist rhetoric about Obama I have seen to date.

This post was deleted for the following reason: In this run up to the election, let's maybe try and only post major stories and not every single link op-ed about how one side or the other are jerks. -- mathowie

They're running at 0%+/- margin of error with the black vote, and poorly with Latinos, and have a gender gap. Absent a policy change, they're going to have to do everything they possibly can to shore up the white male vote.

That probably isn't going to look pretty.

Sadly, "White men prefer Romney over Obama by a 24-point margin..."

This is too depressing, I'm going back to trawling for World War 3 Public Information Films.

crunchland, I saw that video earlier today. What kills me about Priebus is that he's a never-ending font of nonsensical talking points, and any time someone tries to say anything substantive about what he JUST SAID, he makes fun of them, or acts like they're attacking him, or being unreasonable. Seriously, fuck that guy. Matthews was right - Priebus was being an evasive prick because he didn't have a leg to stand on.

It's the exact same as their policy on the economy and environment: Just keep things going until the boomers die off, and fuck the rest.

As far as they're concerned, a white-minority America is not an America that they're interested in living in. Right now, they're somewhere between denial, and going broke while their little enclave still exists... They might even be able to keep it up for a bit longer if they force their latest round of disenfranchisement laws through...

(Also, let's not fall into the trap of vilifying white men as a group. We're not all bad.)

I feel I must mention that the Southern Strategy appears to have worked well in the past. But remember that it isn't about impressing everyone. It's about shifting around 2% of the vote. If you vote Democratic party every time but don't like it, nobody cares. If you vote Republican every time, nobody cares if you like it.

If you vote Democratic normally, would otherwise stay home but dislike black people and get swayed, then you matter. Not everybody who votes Romney is a racist. But, let's face it, they are ensuring further that the vast majority of racists will be voting Romney.

The end of that piece is particularly sobering; "Which is to say that only about 1 in 5 Republicans can claim the mantle of being even remotely rational and informed human beings."

Wait, that must by hyperbole, how could he come up with such a number?

"According to a spring, 2012 survey, roughly two-thirds of Republicans say they believe Barack Obama was not born in the U.S., and with many others saying they aren’t sure either way, only about 1 in 5 accept the truth of Obama’s citizenship."

I need a drink.

Chris Matthews [MSNBC] And Reince Priebus [Republican Party Chairman] Duke It Out Over The Race Card On Morning Joe

Oh man, that guy hits every talking point at once. Mathews is out to destroy fun with political correctness run amok, Mathews is playing "gotcha journalism", Mathews is partisan. And oh, by the way Romney is from Michigan, can't be too sure about Obama.

Count me as one of the people that think they are ruining this brand. They are going to burn the furniture to get Romney in?
