"Legitimate Rape" - the pharmaceutical ad.

Following six-term and Senate nominee Rep. Todd Akin's (R-MO) insistence that in a case of "legitimate rape", the female body can stop pregnancy on its own free will (previously), Laura Napoli created a faux pharmaceutical ad prescribing "legitimate rape" as birth control.

While Republicans have tried to no avail to push Akin out of the race, in its official party platform the Republican Party adopted a no-exceptions opposition to rape as party doctrine. Akin's lead has turned into a small lead for incumbent pro-choice Democratic Senator Claire McCaskill.

But does it go too far?

This post was deleted for the following reason: yes, legitimate rape is total fucking bullshit. But this has been linked in another thread and the overlap of rape and lulz and internet controversy is not so great for MetaFilter. Election time is tough, let's maybe focus on the things that are important and not the dramaz low-hanging fruit part? -- jessamyn

Shouldn't it also read "no-exceptions opposition to ABORTION" and not rape?

"...it's like regular birth control, only it's imagined by crazy people."

I honestly can't tell whether the current incarnation of the Republican party is actually evil, or just insane. I also can't decide which is worse.

What I can decide is to have another drink, go lay in bed and stare at the ceiling for a while.
