Warning internet users! A new scam involving a Sudanese prince calming he has money to take you to the movies and buy you popcorn. May claim to hold your hand as well. Take him up on his offer, he seems nice.

The "I Take U To Da Movies" link was marked as already visited by me. I think this is the fist time I've seen a video before it's been on MetaFilter (I'm usually a week late on these sort of things).

"I Take U To Da Movies" was posted here before, and I have to to say Bangs has evolved since last time.

I actually want those big polygonal sunglasses he's wearing in the "Take U Shopping" video. Hella fresh.

The shots of 'Hip Hop Master', vietnamese takeways, Highpoint Shopping Centre and recognizable Melbourne landmarks, in addition to Bangs' unique flow makes this Aussie ex-pat living in Germany very homesick!

Westside! Footscray represent!

mikeybidness, Bangs shares your homesickness.

Bangs singlehandedly ruined all our speech patterns in my sharehouse for a few months on end (eehh, jyeahh, fur rial, y'boi Trivia Newton John). A mate of mine saw him one day in Flinders Street Station and I was so jealous I nearly shat.

Anyway, back to bringin' the popcorn.

I admit to being a little disappointed to find out what this was. When I saw the names of the videos I expected little featurettes of people carrying giant styrofoam 'U's with them throughout their daily lives.

I remember seeing "Take U To Da Movies" a while back and realising, hilarity aside, that it was a sweet wholesome song - a type sadly missing from the genre for a while.

Yeah, if nothing else, I gotta respect his sincerity.

Scenario A) You go on a date with a sweet and sincere guy who pays for dinner and a movie, but you find out he makes ridiculous YouTube music videos.

Scenario B) You go on a date where the guy poor mouths and buys you Subway with a gift-card, but DOESN'T make weird YouTube videos.

Scenario C) You go on a date where the guy poor mouths and buys you Subway with a gift-card, AND makes ridiculous YouTube videos.

Spoiler: Scenario C is closest to my reality.

OH MY GOD that video has been haunting me for the last 20 years. That song always creeped me out and I couldn't remember exactly why.

I'm not really getting "sweet" and "wholesome" so much as a weird naiveté that the operating principle of courtship is, "Buy things for women in order to to buy the women for yourself." But maybe I'm just Saturday-morning cynical.

These are awesome. The beats are pretty good, his flow's solid, and it's all this charming naiveté that we interpret as authenticity.

Here's Wikipedia on Ajak Chol, aka Bangs and Ur Boy Bangs. His family left South Sudan in 2001, refugees from the civil war. That's a hell of a rough start in life. Here he is interviewed on Eminem Radio. And a print interview from 2010.
I made the beat on my own. I make beats. All the beats that’s on my album I made it.

So what happen after the movies?
You know, I got the popcorn, I know what else you like… What else you like is, ya know, the time for relaxing, sit down and relax.

Take U to The Movies was the first one we saw. One of my friends remarked "Aw. How Sweet. He likes her." Bangs is so endearing.

Around here, Meet Me on The Facebook rules, if only because I am serenaded with it every time it is discovered that I am looking at Facebook again.

There's something so sweet-natured about that one too. How do 2000 people dislike that? But the more they keep hating on him, the more he keeps doing his thing. HI HATERS! ----CAUTION; SUNNY, CHEERFUL. MAY INDUCE SMILING.

These are awesome. The beats are pretty good, his flow's solid, and it's all this charming naiveté that we interpret as authenticity.

I LOVE the beats. I remember listening to Movies and thinking the keyboard breakdown was really cool. I like the way he infuses it with Sudanese sensibilities. U go, Bangs.

Smokey Robinson being sexually harassed by a giant anamorphic vowel will make up for just about anything.

No love for Christmas Story? It has a bizarre intro and everything. Also thirding the beats being legitimately awesome.

I love Christmas Story, not solely because of the prominent 'SEXPO' ad on the tram as it passes. But really, if anyone can shed any light on that intro story... I'm all ears.

If this is who it appears to be: I know at least one person who claims to have slept with him.
How small is this town?

Musically, he's awful to my ears, but eh. He's having fun.

Trivia Newton John: Sexpo is the "health, lifestyle and sexuality" expo here in Australia. It tours around, brings out the porn stars and tries to be a legite thing. Advertises widely. Is that what you were asking?
posted by Mezentian at 9:30 PM on September 8, 2012

No, I was asking about the intro story. Why do you get chased because it is Christmas?
posted by Trivia Newton John at 9:39 PM on September 8, 2012

I like the Sexpo ad being prominent because Bangs' lyrics are always completely genteel (Hey shorty buy you popcorn hold your hand have a nice time etc) when really music is always about getting it onnnnnn. Sometimes you need the trams to name what cannot be spoken.
posted by Trivia Newton John at 9:42 PM on September 8, 2012

My mistake.

I assume he is being chased at Christmas because he is Gangsta Claus.
