All children are creative. And, no matter how primitive the draft prototype seems, the final result can be fantastic. The question is, how do you get from that line drawing of a fart to the final product. What if you need a girraff? Or a black and red dog (with both a right and left perspective)? I like them all except for the one of the girl in the black dress. The rest of the plush versions of the drawings are taken pretty literal except for this one. The drawing clearly shows a girl who is not as stick thin as the plus version came out. Also the nose is drastically different.

I think the beauty of these is not just from the child's original. It also comes from taking something seriously that has only a threadbare fragile sort of existence itself. By fleshing it out, making it solid and tangible, the features that were noted by the author are given a gravitas. You can do the same with scribbles, by reproducing them as if every line and dribble had a solid existence. I think its one of the reasons Paul Klee's pictures are so appealing.

When I first read this post, I thought it was about some sort of design firm where companies could have their products and logos and stuff designed by a team of kids, where the kids do the initial sketch and then it's up to adults to translate it into something that looks a bit more slick. I still think that's sort of an interesting idea... Kids have an intuitive sense of color and composition that fades as they age. As an adult artist, you actually have to work really hard to get back a lot of the natural skills you had when you were a little kid.
