Ok, having made a thoroughly useless comment, one made even more useless by the fact that it just repeats a joke made in the title of this post, I'll try to do better. The humor on the original "Sifl & Olly" show came closer than anything I've ever seen on TV to resembling the type of stuff that used to pass for humor between my friends and I back in the day. As case in point: one of my friends in high school was taking a radio broadcasting class, and part of the class was doing small bits of the actual broadcasts on the local public radio station. He got assigned to do a weather report one day, which I heard as I was driving to school. I can remember it word for word: "The weather today in the metropolitan area looks just great. We'll have falling hot rocks from the sun at about 12, and the at around 3 o'clock, or rather, exactly at 3 o'clock, according to my calculations, we'll have 50,000 mile an hour winds. So return to your homes and tidy up." Sifl and Olly never featured a weather report skit, so far as I know, but if they had, wouldn't it have sounded more or less exactly like that?

I'm a huge Sifl & Olly fan but this stuff isn't as funny as the original show, and I think that's mostly because it feels so much more scripted. One of the best things about Sifl & Olly was that you could tell most of it was just two guys recording themselves making stuff up as they went along (even during the songs). Since it was all done with puppets, they could record a huge amount of audio most of which probably wasn't funny, then edit it down to just the best parts, and act them out with puppets to make the show. I think they have abandoned that process for the new version and it's not nearly as good because of that.

Also, Liam Lynch has mentioned that these new segments are entirely his work, with Matt Crocco just coming in at the end to record his voice parts. So yeah, it'll definitely have a different dynamic. Still, it's given me an excuse to rerun my torrented episodes. Can't believe it hasn't been syndicated in the last ten years on one of MTV's Viacom sister station.

I am so happy that there is going to be more Sifl and Olly. It was one of the first shows that I watched with my now-husband in college, and I suspect that our relationship wouldn't be the same without it. It's ridiculous how many phrases from the show are part of our regular "vocabulary". BUY MY POTATO POWERED PANTS! YOU GUYS ARE SUCKERS!

I would watch Sifl & Olly illicitly late at night as a young teen and feel soooooo cool. I was always under the impression that it was shockingly ahead of its time. But it's been so long you'd think it'd feel outdated now. The new episode was hilarious, and it hasn't changed a bit. And it felt perfectly current. Is it just that I was really impressionable and Sifl & Olly formed my tastes in weirdo short form video comedy, or is Silf & Olly why weirdo short form video comedy is the way it is today? Overthinking it, I know. Eeeeee I'm so excited!

This is great news(!), but supercres's Gawker link is exactly what I've been waiting to hear for YEARS now. The "Season 3" DVD is fun and all but does not even begin to fill the void of not owning the two actual seasons of the show.
