I don't get why no one is acting surprised in that stingray photo. No time to react? Or they saw it coming and were expecting it? But aren't stingray stings painful?
posted by DU at 10:15 AM on September 27, 2012

I'm sure it's just a coincidence that most of the cats are staring from a distance, planning the photographer's demise, right?
posted by tommasz at 10:17 AM on September 27, 2012 [1 favorite]

It's not stinging them, it's just jumping up on top of them.
posted by echo target at 10:17 AM on September 27, 2012

Is Stingray Creeper a meme yet?

I'm going to have to make Stingray Creeper aren't I?

35. Inconsiderate Horse

That exact phenomenon -- framed almost identically -- makes a brief appearance in the 1940 Marx Brothers film Go West. It's one of my favourite shots ever.
posted by Sys Rq at 10:32 AM on September 27, 2012

It seems more likely that it's not jumping up on top of them but being lifted on top of them by the guy whose head is popping into view behind the ray.

I think the sloth from the first link is still my favourite. I know it's anthropomorphizing, but he looks so cheerful.

Because the Stingray is being held up by a man. You can his head behind the stingray. I first came across the picture on reddit and they decided the picture was taken in the Cayman islands where the tourists come and swim with stingrays. Sometimes, the tour guides will put stingrays on people to freak them out.

Is Stingray Creeper a meme yet?
Yes - Pervert Stingray. Started on reddit. My favorite is the first one - "Did you ladies know? I'm a "bottom feeder".

This is hilarious, I didn't know this was a thing. I was in the middle of a photo shoot once in London, and it had just rained so it was super muddy, and out of nowhere this dog just comes barreling at me and jumps on me and covers me in licks and mud. Heh, here's a picture of it.

Suggested caption for the stingray photo:

You guys might not know this, but I consider myself a bit of a loner. I tend to think of myself as a one-man wolf pack. But when my sister brought Doug home, I knew he was one of my own. And my wolf pack... it grew by one. So there... there were two of us in the wolf pack... I was alone first in the pack, and then Doug joined in later. And six months ago, when Doug introduced me to you guys, I thought, "Wait a second, could it be?" And now I know for sure, I just added two more guys to my wolf pack. Four of us wolves, running around the desert together, in Las Vegas, looking for strippers and cocaine. So tonight, I make a toast!

I can't believe I am letting a couple of obvious 'shoops spoil my enjoyment of something that otherwise delights me.

But listen. If you have to shoop a bomb, there are over 9000 funny pictures of cats on the internet. How hard can it be to find one that hasn't been seen by everyone already COME ON

The horse ones are always the best. They have those "smiles" and I love when the whites of their eyes show, a la Inconsiderate Horse.

This one isn't a strict photo-bomb, but it had me crying from laughter just now.

My girlfriend goes to law school with the middle girl in the stingray photo. So I've been bowling with her before.

I don't know the stingray from Adam though.

I clicked on the "25 Hilarious Animal Photobombs" link, and only got a few clicks into it before giving up in disgust. Jesus Christ, people, don't you give a shit about obviously photoshopped images anymore? Or is not caring about the authenticity of an image the New Flesh? I feel your pain, louche mustachio.

The stingray one should be disqualified. A guy's holding it up to create a photobomb. That somehow breaks the rules (plus encourages dippy tourists to possibly injure the wildlife).

Don't anthropomorphize sloths. They hate that.
