Drafthouse Films has released ten minutes of their 2011 comedy epic, THE FP, documenting the Warriors-like struggle for control over Frazier Park, with a not-at-all trademarked ~~Dance Dance Revolution~~ Beat Beat Revelation as the battleground. Aight, dawg? Let's roll.

Have we seriously not have an FP thread yet? Because that movie was awesomely terrible and terribly awesome and if I get my act together in time I am totally going as J-Tro for Halloween. (There is a point past which I won't defend the movie - I am not kidding about the terrible. But I am not kidding about the awesome either.)

The aesthetic is sort of "Fallout via southern California thrift store" although I don't think they ever really explained what the apocalypse was, or if in fact there ever was one.

I know the whole thing is self-reflexive...but if the acting were just SLIGHTLY more committed it would set the whole thing off. The phoned-in acting kind of ruins it for me...mainly the two main guys. If it felt like they owned that language instead of were trying it on for size...this would seize me. Even still...its fun,

not excited because of the problems I already see in it It works best if you look at it as the best possible movie a couple of really ordinary-albeit-talented teenage boys could make. (And the acting... well, it's not stellar. J-Tro is in fact one of the writers, Jason Trost, whose IMDB page shows a lot of unnamed crowd roles before this and... nothing else. But the commitment level isn't really the problem, and that gets more clear as the movie goes on and you realize they are not actually going to ever wink at the audience over it.)

So I opened the youtube page, and all I got was the truncated description: "In a dystopian future, a relentless turf war rages. Two rival gangs feud for control of rural wasteland Frazier Park ('The FP') in the deadly arena of competitive..." and it was clearly a B-Film, but I was thinking, "Is this Sf, one of those Christian apocalyptic films...?" and it wasn't the dance pads were revealed that I got it. But, having known some SERIOUS DDR people, the actors just aren't convincing as DDR champs. Not fast enough, not enough bouncing -- and the arrows going by looked like they were on easy mode (aka what I do). But i still love DDR so hard.

I like the way the title signature bong ends with a quick crescendo morph between the melodies for Chariots of Fire and Bladerunner. Nice. I think I'd still just rather watch an old Troma though.

I'm worried more about the language/additudes, rather than the acting quality oh god i've turned into my father

Is nobody going to mention that a bunch of these dudes were also in Crank 2: High Voltage or Ghost Rider 2? Or that J-Tro REALLY does wear an eyepatch in real life? (Jason Trost images for reference) I mean, the mind boggles. I watched it for the shoes, mostly. But there were seriously just TOO many cuss words in the dialogue, to the point where it was distracting.
