Studio photographs of birds.

Turns out they're by Mefi's own, which I discovered when searching as I made the post.

Oooh these are gorgeous!

As a human owned by a bird, let me say that these photos capture much of what I love visually about her, and about birds in general.

Thanks for posting this beautiful work.

When this first caught my eye, it said "Stupid photographs of birds." Which was more interesting.

No, it's just photographs of birds. The stupid part is the side-scrolling.

You think Pelicans are cute?

The stupid part is the side-scrolling.

Photographers' websites have to have annoying interfaces.

It's apparently a law or something.

Gorgeous! That lil kestral looks like the cutest thing ever but would probably claw my face off.

At first I thought the white pelican had some kind of bizarre growth on his bill, but it turns out those bumps are present on males and females during breeding period. Like some kind of...bill boner.

Huzzah and three cheers for the Roseate Spoonbill Crane!

Kestrels...it turns out that they're pretty common around here, unless you're holding a camera, and then you can just forget about the little creeps.

Those are gorgeous. I'm just trying to figure out how he got the swallow to stay still.

Out of all the ways a visual artist can make their site unwieldy, side-scrolling is among the least annoying to me. Nothing jumps or pops open or flows or opens in new tabs/windows or whatever.

Nice image of another of mefi's own in the last frame there. Lovely photos, but I'm going to have to nerd out and complain that the species names aren't all correct.

Oops. Didn't read the very first reply. Joke spoiled. *sad trombone noise*

I'm honored to have my work featured here on the blue. If you'd like to know more about the project you can check out the awesome Image Deconstructed site for an interview they recently published with me.

The birds were all photographed at the Suncoast Seabird Sanctuary in Redington Shores, FL and most have been injured. The kestrel was raised as someone's pet until she became too much to handle. The barn swallow has an injured wing and was a mellow little guy who can't do much more than hop around. The red-tailed hawk has neurological damage and doesn't fly. All of the birds in the series are permanent residents of the sanctuary.

As for the side-scrolling site, well, my apologies. I'm a photographer and not a web designer and my current site is a stop-gap between my previous all flash site and the new html 5 site that I haven't had a chance to get up and running. The comments here are the kick in the ass I needed to put it back on my list of things to do.

These are lovely, and made me see birds in a new way. Or see Audobon's point about them, at least. Thanks so much for making them, photoslob.

As a quick fix, you could make it vertical:

Hey photoslob! These photos really are very nice. That kestrel is absolutely gorgeous.

And I don't mind the side scrolling, I think it works pretty well on a multi-touch trackpad.

Just sent the link to my sister, who replied saying they would make great record sleeves. She works in the music industry as well, so you might be getting an email sometime in the future!

I've had a painting of a kestrel hanging on my bedroom wall for years and years. And for some reason I thought kestrels were big-ass birds, like red-tailed hawks - I dunno, maybe it's that attitude they project. I was shocked to look at the photo and realize how small they are. Delicate and tiny murder, balanced on a finger. Astonishing.

you just described my cockatiel when he's pissed off. though he's definitely not as deadly as a kestrel. unless you're millet.
