I occasionally give seminars on semiotics as part of a relatively new international programme here in my uni. Today, a student came up to me after the seminar and said: "I thought I was coming here, and it'll all be philosophy and semiotics, dense and deep stuff, but today we spent sixty minutes analyzing a picture of a cat. And that's amazing!" The picture that we spent an hour analyzing according to its syntactic, semantic, and pragmatic aspects was this one.

I've never taken my dog to a dog park to "show her off". I take her there so that she can run around and meet other dogs. It's not about me. I mostly agree with you. Then again, I did take this picture one of the first few days DC's first official dog park was open. (Never seen them back.)
