I want to like this, but a lot of people are clearly just going about their day oblivious to the camera which makes it pretty creepy.

OK, new top thing to do with my gazzilions of dollars if I ever win a huge lottery jackpot - get a whole parade of experimental archeologists, historical re-enactors, cosplayers, whatever and have them present the history of mankind from the paleolithic up through HALO space marines over the course of the day.
Unlikely as I understand that the lottery is a tax on people who are bad at math, but a man can dream!

This reminds me how surprised I was when I moved to NYC and found that most people just dressed pretty shlubby and normal. The movies and media had raised my expectations.

What was that project I read about some time ago where people paint yellow lines on the ground and stencil the message "the space between these lines is watched by a camera"?

This reminds me how surprised I was when I moved to NYC and found that most people just dressed pretty shlubby and normal.
Indeed, most of the folks walking by are just really very *normally* dressed. Quite unremarkable, really. Now, you put this camera in Tokyo's Shibuya area, or along Omote-Sando, and you're gonna get a lot more uniquely and interestingly and often outlandishly dressed and coiffed people. It'd be lots more fun to browse the photos. They could call it Sutairu Burasutah.

I'm wondering exactly where this is. I live three blocks from that same subway stop. The construction is probably a clue but offhand I'm not sure where there is construction 1 block from the Bedford stop.
If there's interest, I'll go down there and hold up a Metafilter sign or something - tomorrow...

well, now i know to never walk down N. 6th street between Bedford and Berry. i only saw person that i kind of know. and none of these people are particularly hip or egregious.
this would be much more effective if the camera was posted at the front door of Opening Ceremony.

What confuses me: Why is everyone going left?
The camera only takes a photo when the subject is walking right to left. The people behind this are only interested in photos where you can see faces.
The tophat and website design indicate that all tongues are placed firmly in cheeks. Also, the about page links to the website digital agency OKFocus, who look like they have a juvenile/irreverent bent.

I also lived there making considerably less than that, and so did quite a number of my neighbors, many of whom are on public assistance. Williamsburg isn't some magic enclave; it's a regular Brooklyn neighborhood that has a higher-than-average amount of moneyed white people in it.
