The guy has rented a bulldozer. He's building a road. This is serious. But building a 1:1 scale Millennium Falcon in the woods isn't like dusting crops, boy! Without precise calculations you could fall right through the floorboards or topple sideways into a grove of maples and that'd end your project real quick, wouldn't it?

I can't really tell from the photos, but is he really building one or is he just sort of collecting a few parts and putting together some PVC pipe until he gets bored? Because from what I can tell he hasn't really done too much outside of Sketchup. Or did I miss something? Of all the TMTOTHs that I find on the internet There is no such thing as having too much time on your hands. We should all have more time to pursue completely pointless projects such as this.

If he can get it done in less than twelve parsecs, I'll be impressed. The Kessel Run is a trip through a region of space filled with wandering black holes and other hazards. To make the run in a shorter distance is to make it in a shorter time: you took the straighter path and odds be damned. This is just one example of how an army of hard-working nerds you will never know have gone in and turned Lucasian gibberish into respectable SciFi after the fact. Considering the combined the velocity of the earth, solar system, and milky way, and assuming (stupidly) they're all moving in the same direction, twelve parsecs is roughly thirteen thousand years, or 1/15^th the age of the human race. So if he gets his model built in under twelve parsecs, that's a pretty low bar and no one will be impressed. But if he gets it to work in less than a single parsec it will indeed be a distinguished achievement.

I thought the problem with building a mockup of the Millenium Falcon was that if one compares the dimensions of the internal sets vs. the size of the exterior, you find the interior doesn't fit in the ship. And there's only one spaceship that's allowed to be larger on the inside than the outside.

This is just one example of how an army of hard-working nerds you will never know have gone in and turned Lucasian gibberish into respectable SciFi after the fact. Except for the glaring parsec mishap, I always liked how Star Wars never really cared about getting all the science-y stuff exact and realistic (and relevant). But I think it was the initial RPG books that made the attempt to turn Star Wars into Star Trek, and it kind of ruins that aspect of it, even if it can be fun in its own way. And having every single ultra-minor character have their own elaborate backstory gets kind of ridiculous. Except Porkins, he deserves it. But, while I may not have the money to get a ticket on the first commercial space flights... I think visiting a life-size Falcon would be almost as awesome. If his progress is as fast as he's boasting, we ought to do well.
