About a year ago I was at a conference in Prague, and one evening, sipping beer with some of the other researchers, discussion turned to movies. And of course, being academicians, everybody was talking about their favourite last-year-at-marienbad style "highbrow" stuff. At which I said that doubtless these are all great movies but the best movie ever made is of course Aliens. Then, after shouts of "of course!", we spent the next hour throwing Aliens quotes at each other. posted by Pyrogenesis at 8:23 AM on November 2, 2012 [3 favorites]

I saw a picture of this in a halloween slideshow that I was subsequently unable to find. Usually not a huge fan of SLYT posts, but this one is awesome. Thanks for posting this.
I've seen an inordinate number of babies/infants/toddlers involved in their parents costumes this year, and I love it.
I know it's nothing new, my parents have a old pic of me as Baby Jesus complete with tinfoil halo while they went as Joseph and Mary what seems like eons ago. posted by Sphinx at 9:39 AM on November 2, 2012

Forgive me if this has been posted before, but it is utterly charming: Spotted on the Boston Subway on Halloween, these parents have been dubbed 'the coolest parents in the world' on Twitter and Tumblr for their impressive Where the Wild Things Are costumes - complete with papier mache heads posted by Mezentian at 9:32 PM on November 2, 2012
I used to think Master Blaster would be the ultimate daddy-kiddo costume. Now I'm not so sure.
