Your Saturday dose of interspecies lovin: cat adopts squirrel, squirrel learns to purr (slytb). Warning: seeing this might lead to hours of watching related videos as you fall down a rabbit hole of interspecies fostering.

Reminds of the cases of lions that sometimes adopt the young from other species ,like a baby antelope.

For those who want more animals and other animals being awesome together:

Fuck Yeah Interspecies Friendships

And Nature on PBS is running a new series called "Animal Odd Couples" about this very subject. The first episode is viewable (at least in the U.S.) for free here. I'm partial to the cheetah and the dog.

And then, you'd never guess what - those Duke boys went and adopted them a squirrel and some cats. Well, you can bet Boss Hog didn't like that one bit. But, before you knew it, they zipped away in the General Lee and left him in the dust.

Seriously, thank you for the warning. I don't think I'll risk it because I could only make it about 2 minutes into Wolfster's lioness/baby antelope link before getting teary-eyed.

I always find it heart warming until the antelope says hello to the new pride in town.

So the lion + baby antelope link led me to this video about baboons kidnapping feral puppies who then become assimilated into the baboon troop. I wonder if there's any evidence for pre-human hominids having done the same.

I see what you did there.

Do we know for sure that baby squirrels DON'T make that purry sound anyway? I need to know before I, um, send the link to all my friends.

I want to kiss every little teeny paw and nosey and be surrounded by sweetly purring baby kitties and squirrlies for the rest of the weekend please

This was so adorable, but really, my favorite part as a displaced southerner was the accents.

There was a big brood of wild chickens in my yard this spring. When the roosters got old enough, they started to crow. Except for the one who imprinted on my neighbor's cat- he meowed. It's not so bad to wake up to a meowing rooster.

Cats and squirrels living together?

They warned us about this kind of thing happening once gay marriage started getting legal.
