Ladies and gentlemen, StickyCarpet as Elmer Fudd! Uncanny impression! Give him a big hand!

I bought it earlier today. I like it. One of my earliest on-camera experiences is unintentionally being in one of their videos. Broke a couple ribs, but it was worth it...

Happy they're still going, sad that it was Adam Yauch who produced their last album.

Nice! Might have passed me by otherwise. thanks.

I picked up a vinyl copy of their 1988 Live album in the spring at a flea market. That shit is better than espresso on a bad morning.

Off to listen.

I have attended Bad Brains concerts during which H.R.'s feet never touched the floor. The man LEVITATED for the entirety of the show. Fact.

This band changed my life. Thanks, flapjax.

Just got to the end of the playlist and realized the last track is titled 'MCA Dub'.

How long are we gonna keep hearing about "albums"?

So I was touring the L.A. River the other week with a classmate who is probably young enough to be my son. He was playing music in his car that I didn't recognize, but between stops on our class odyssey, we started talking about it, about punk. Turns out he really wishes he'd seen the bands I was lucky enough to see in the 80s. We didn't have much of a meeting of the minds - he wishes he'd seen the Misfits, and I'm not too interested in being Punk Rock Auntie - but when he brought up Bad Brains, we connected. I could tell him that Bad Brains played one of the best gigs I ever saw. Furious punk rock that brought everyone UP until HR danced wildly to the back, and then the band switched beats, moving into a smooth reggae groove that brought HR skanking slowly up to the front, bringing everyone in the club into his rhythm. Oh, my. That was audience control, and a fucking great gig.

Might have been '82. Was definitely at the Whisky.

The comments are hilarious even though nobody's joking.

Well, given that it's AVClub, chances are most people are joking. That's one of the things I like about AVClub.

As a teenager who'd only been to hardcore punk shows featuring bands made up of mostly other teenagers, seeing Bad Brains was like a revelation.

Was hardcore meant to grow old?

Zen Arcade still speaks to screams at me as meaningfully now as it did... [starts counting years since 1984, gets depressed, stops] ... back then.

That doesn't mean it wouldn't be dispiriting to watch Bob Mould perform it today.

Did they ever recant the homophobic shit? It was always an obstacle for me getting into them.

The bad brains were the band I was listening to most while I was figuring out and learning how to express how important music was to me. Banned in DC (on cassette) would be presented as exhibit A in the unlikely event I was put on trial and called to defend how I exist in this universe, hopefully Chuck D would be my lawyer.

Sigh, a band whose reunion would give a tiny breath of life to the DC music scene, but... you know the story.

I've never had a new album so completely transport me to a specific time and place in the past as listening to just two tracks of this transported me to a friend's basement outside Marmora, Ontario, 1996.

As long as there are art lovers with attention spans. Try to cope.

Also: Youth Are Getting Restless: Live In Amsterdam - blistering, mindblowing, utterly epic. If you are a Bad Brains fan you must seek this album out and make it your own.

As in now.

Was hardcore meant to grow old?

No. But bad brains are something much deeper and older than Hardcore, or HarDCore, and will never grow old.

So far this is pretty good. Production has teeth, which is unusual on their recent recordings.

Breakdowns used to annoy me so much, now they're kinda cute.

The band sounds great. HR still sounds like he's phoning it in, and not in a good way.

YT's taken it down. :-(

For me, there's before "I against I" and after.
