Awesome. Imagine Obama doing something like this? I can see it, but unfortunately I see it as coming off forced and unfunny. Anyway, I'm looking forward to 2013. I used to hang with an online crowd back around 2004 or so which included many members who are completely credulous about the Mayan 2012 Apocalypse/Awakening/Whatever and I'm looking forward in January to reinstalling mIRC, logging onto my old network (if it still exists) and doing an annoying victory dance.

If the world ended in Australia, would even the Australians notice? Certainly not all of them. We owe so much post-apocalyptic cinema to the fact that the Australian outback can pass for a post-apocalyptic hellscape. It's interesting to go back to the first Mad Max/Roadwarrior and see how little was changed/omitted to convincingly establish the doomy wasteland setting - something which allowed the boom in horror, sci-fi and action flicks that inform our post-apocalyptic fiction to this day (Fallout:NV springs to mind). High time for an Ozploitation FPP, I think.
