What?! What?! I got hands too! I got hands too! I got hands too! ...ok I'm tired.

My pup will do that. The "slamming of the paws" is what we refer to around here as "play puppy", a way to communicate "hey, let's play, chase, growl, bark, wrestle and still be friends!"

This is a particularly cute example, but doesn't everyone do this with their dogs? Or really any dog, for that matter? Probably the easiest way to get a dog to play with you is to drop into a play bow.

Yeah, that "bow" is a fairly common gesture among dogs to indicate play. I believe it occurs in nearly all breeds, including wolves.

Whose idea was it to double the size of that video with a mostly-static ad for ... something?

Are we actually becoming jaded about cute puppy videos, now? There is no hope for us.

I've got five of the motherfuckers in this house. I'm into cute, but I need notably cute at this point.

A glut of videos like this one promotes an unrealistic image of dogs. People fifty years from now will watch these videos and gasp with horror at the atrocity.

Actually, the owner is imitating the pug.

I'm glad other people are animal behavior nerds. I read some book about speaking "pet" when I was 12 and ever since then have been play bowing every friendly puppy I meet.

I do the play bow thing a lot too whenever I see a dog without a human companion. It's amazing how many mean looking and sounding "guard" dogs quickly settle down and start wagging their tails at me. It's like you can almost see them thinking, "Hey! This guy can't be all bad. He speaks DOG!"

And, by the way, the sound that goes with that move around here is "Aaaaaaaaar WOOF!"
