I'd share that with other people in a heartbeat, but there's a monster spider in the sidebar, and the same monster spider but bigger at the end of the video. Oh well. Good job YouTube.

There are cats that like to hunt mice and cats that like to hunt birds. I have a strong suspicion about which category this cat falls under.

That spider in the sidebar is from this recent post and it's actually ADORABLE!

I think that cat is frustrated by her lack of neat folding skills...

Who am I kidding? A cat would never fold laundry!

Cat + laundry = LaundryCat!

I think my laundry productivity would at least double with one of these.

I don't have a problem getting the laundry into the basket, clean or dirty. It's the reverse operation I need help with. :glares at the two lazy, good-for-nothing cats lounging nearby:

Let's be clear about this: the spider mentioned above is that of a sidebar video. The "larger spider" edd mentions is only the thumbnail of that same video that's displayed when the cat video ends. There is no stealth spider in the video. You can watch it without fear supermedusa.

Some friends of mine in college used to have a spider eating cat. Everyone was happy with the arrangement.

Well, probably not the spiders.

For some reason this is the video that cemented the following epiphany for me.

As much as people joke about the trivialness of cute cat/dog videos it occurs to me that they really show how much we (cats, dogs, and humans) as species have grown to have such an absolutely tight symbiotic relationship. We're not just feeding and sheltering these guys, we're taking them with us into the digital age. Mark this, even if the singularity were to happen you can bet we'd upload Fuzzles and Sparky to come with us.

Except for me, because as much as I love cats and dogs I'm oh so certain the universe would find a way for me to still be allergic to that particular code.

Y'know what blew my mind? Except for a brief period as kittens, and when mating underneath my window at 3 A.M., cats usually don't meow to each other. They only do it with humans. Yes, they are talking to you.

The dispensation of pets can be a tricky question for Christian pastors. There is no clear theology surrounding it but at the same time the passing of a pet is very often a child's first real encounter with the loss of a loved one.

Everyone knows what the right answer should be though, and I agree if we end up having control of the singularity we'll make it happen :-)

I have a toddler who does exactly the opposite. Try to put something in a basket... nope. Gotta throw it right back out.

You could put them in a room and have laundry flying in circles for all eternity.

Am I missing something? I watched the video twice and don't understand what's unique or interesting about a video of a guy throwing dirty laundry into a common household item.

I just assumed everyone owned a hampurr.

Yep. I don't know why it didn't occur to me last night, but use the metafilter inline player to avoid the side bar, and just close it before the very end. There's a brief ad type thing for the youtube channel at the end too so you can quit out during the last ~10s and not risk missing any awesome cat.
Go watch!

I adore the cat's discomfort at the end. They don't want attention - the cameraperson is scaring off the prey and ruining a perfectly good hunting spot.

The Caracal is a wild cat known for jumping after birds. Looks like our domesticated felines can do a pretty good job too.

I had a cat that wouldn't eat spiders, but was curious about them and so would just smell them. One day the cat came to me, making the sound "mmmm", "MMMMM!!!" "MMMMMMM!!!!"

The spider she was smelling had jumped onto her nose and she was quite upset and was trying to tell me, but she was afraid to open her mouth, because the spider might jump in.

I used to have a tabby who would often leap three feet into the air to catch flies on the wing. She'd nail them every time.

Sadly, she didn't have the sense of the cat that eye of newt describes. She tried the same attack on a bee once and looked quite triumphant for a moment. Just one, brief shining moment.

I swear that's one of the best reasons to own a cat, the way they will eat spiders or at least kill the shit out of them. One of my cats was an insect corpse hoarder, she had a little corner behind the couch that was straight out of a bug's idea of a Korean horror movie.

And she had the uncanny ability to NOT attack truly venomous spiders but would just sit over them, herding them and meowing loudly, til I would come over apply the boot to them, mostly black widows. Once a hobo spider.

Fuck me, I love cats. And I hate spiders.
