Forgot to mute my iTunes and watched the video while Black Flag's "No More" blasted. That was unintentionally hilarious. I highly recommend it.

Cats would only sleep on command if you played death metal cranked to 11.

Watching that actually made me feel uncomfortable and sad. Puppies don't really do that in a normal setting. They appear to be intimidated and fearful, and the guy seems pretty cocky that he's subjected them to his will. I hope they have bright futures with people who don't use them to show off.

Odd, I saw no signs of cockiness nor intimidation and fear. What signs were you basing your assumption on?

Eh, fair enough, I guess. I saw something you didn't see. I suppose the puppies are okay. Hope so, anyway.

I sing the same song to my son every time I put him to bed. I do not get the same results.

Yet another instance in which puppies > toddlers.

As I sit in my office at the tail end of FUCKING JERKWAD COMMON COLD 2012 and some low-grade food poisoning (THANKS MURGH VINDALOO, TOILET BROS 4EVER) on 2 hours of disordered sleep, there is nothing I would rather do than lay on the floor and watch some puppies fall asleep. So, thank you for this.

I had the volume low due to being at work - it definitely looked like he was telling the world's most boring story.

It is like those puppies are cosplaying yesterday's staff meeting when the World's Most Boring Consultant decided to turn the conversation to the really important work-related subject - himself.

That did come off as creepy to me, like they were trained to act like they were sleeping. I doubt they're being abused, though. I'm not even sure you can train puppies that young.

My across-the-alley neighbor has a dog that he's raised from puppyhood. Her ears and tail are docked (she's a pit bull) and I've seen him whip her with a leash. She has endless pitbull puppy/adolescent energy but will hold herself still when you approach her until he says she can greet you and then she will lose her shit and jump everywhere while peeing submissively.

This is to say, I've seen the behavior of an abused puppy (as well as that of the abuser) and, well... in my world a man singing puppies to sleep isn't it.

It seems to me that the pups complained when he stopped singing as they weren't done being sung to yet.

My 8-month old Akita will give me the same look and occasionally make the same sorts of noises when she's decided it's time for petting and I stop (yes, of course I keep petting her).

That is very a very cute puppy farm. Too bad he is not putting his energy into helping animals after the fact.

DEAR GOD, THAT HORRIBLE MAN'S SINGING MADE THOSE POOR PUPPIES SLEEPY! What kind of a sick, perverted world is this???

I think it's just (very cute) operant conditioning, which I think could work on puppies that young. It works on mice and pigeons and (some claim) goldfish, so a puppy wouldn't be hard.

He probably started by singing that song to them whenever they naturally started going to sleep. Do that often enough, and then you can sing it when they aren't sleepy and they'll automatically go into "sleeping now" mode anyway. It would especially work if he rewards them with treats for "sleeping" on cue. (Which might be why they started to "wake up" when he stopped singing. That's probably the bit where they are used to getting a reward treat.)
