Funny how with the astronaut the first thing I thought of was diving, and then later they cut to the fisherman.
That was nice. The French narration made it. posted by postcommunism at 5:57 PM on January 25
That was cool. For anyone wondering if the link is worth clicking, it's a very clever little short movie, narrated in French with English subtitles. posted by yoink at 6:17 PM on January 25 [1 favorite]

Maybe it's just me but the quality of Vimeo seems to be declining pretty sharply these days. I can't watch more than a minute or two at a time and Youtube videos buffer just fine in HD. Most videos on Vimeo seem to buffer more than Youtube.
Merde translates as damn? I suppose that is the usage if not the literal. posted by pdxpogo at 8:16 PM on January 25

Yes.
Also, thanks to this video, I learned how to say 'balls' in French. posted by zippy at 9:45 PM on January 25
Merde is as rude as damn is, when used as an interjection.
It may interest you to learn that the literal translation of the 'damn it all to hell' in the final 'damn it all to hell! no, no, no, it's (spoilers)!' is 'male prostitute of shit' (putain de merde).
and I've always thought that 'couilles' is a more evocative term than 'balls'. posted by Fraxas at 10:25 PM on January 25 [1 favorite]
On-the-go posters can't be bothered with context. Thanks, Yoink. posted by Brocktoon at 11:12 PM on January 25
Sorry for the lack of context, everyone. I was particularly taken by the way the film unfolded and was afraid of giving anything away, however slight. posted by Chutzler at 12:12 AM on January 26

The complaints in this thread might leave the impression that there's a consensus against mystery meat posts, but there isn't. This recentish MeTa on the subject shows a broader range of views. posted by stebulus at 9:45 AM on January 26 [1 favorite]
