President Obama Speaks to the People of Israel (text, reax)

where peace begins:
Not just in the plans of leaders, but in the hearts of people; not just in some carefully designed process, but in the daily connections, that sense of empathy that takes place among those who live together in this land and in this sacred city of Jerusalem. And let me say this as a politician, I can promise you this: political leaders will never take risks if the people do not push them to take some risks. You must create the change that you want to see. Ordinary people can accomplish extraordinary things.
The Tyranny of Political Economy - "In reality, our contemporary frameworks for political economy are replete with unstated assumptions about the system of ideas underlying the operation of political systems. Make those assumptions explicit, and the decisive role of vested interests evaporates. Policy design, political leadership, and human agency come back to life... Expand the range of feasible strategies (which is what good policy design and leadership do), and you radically change behavior and outcomes."

This post was deleted for the following reason: This is looking like... Obama's speech (which is already being discussed), one sort of Op/Ed link on that, and a lot of links that do not seem to be related? Please contact us if you have questions or want to clarify this. -- taz

I've often thought how remarkable it has been for Obama to avoid the utter failure of past presidents to "find a Mideast peace solution" by not getting involved in the first place, and you wonder how cynically the various actors regard Obama's visit over the past few days. They've seen it before, and military aid doesn't seem to be drying up. How can there be any change to the status quo in Israel as long as Syria remains unresolved?

So basically, a bunch of platitudes that can be interpreted however one likes.
