Yeah, I think we could say that Avery Molek is a pretty good drummer, you know, for a six year old.

I'm getting shin-splints just watching him work the dual bass pedals on "Hot For Teacher." Kid's got chops, for sure.

Guessing dad might be a drummer as well?

Kids damn good. For a six year old or a 26 year old or a 66 year old.

As he is six years old he already has more mental capacity than most drummers!

I thought only Japanese six year-old girls were allowed to do this.

Here's the son of a friend of mine, who was 9 at the time, playing drums to the Mario tune at "Estonia's Got Talent" show.

I love this guy! He makes great rock faces when he gets into it, perfectly complemented by the "I got this and am moving on" face. Fun post!

Maybe he needs to just for the extra reach? ::shrug::

His right wrist is a little turned over, but otherwise his technique is lovely. He's not holding the sticks too close to the end: where to hold them depends on the weight and balance of the stick, and the fact that he can do a one-handed ruff coming in off one of the Hot for Teacher breaks shows he's fine with the sticks he's using.

I've often wondered how many of these pint-sized prodigies grow out of these "amazing rock musicianship" phases and become Skrillex fans by their mid-teens.

PeterMcDermott, we've already got that covered.

And I love this kid. Especially when he's in his KISS get-up.

Man, I love stuff like this. Reminds me of The Mini Band.

I think it's funny that almost every commenter for the linked video takes the time to bitchslap Lars Ulrich. Hahahaha! ::snerk::

Somebody introduce this child to Steve Gadd.

Can you imagine this kid at 8 or 9 finessing it like Gadd does in Aja? Or have that awesome martial thing going like in 50 Ways to Leave Your Lover?

Well it appears that he's playing the music his teacher liked, so at some point he's going to wake up and discover new things. The important thing is that he's developing musicianship.

I only watched 1 second of this video and was screaming, "Take those earphones off that kid?" Are you fucking crazy, he'll be deaf by the time he's 20.
posted by charlesminus at 11:26 AM on March 30, 2013

You'd rather he play drums with his ears completely unprotected?
posted by ShutterBun at 11:42 AM on March 30, 2013

They aren't earphones, they're ear defenders.

Sure don't like the music a bit, but the boy is amazing. Maybe a drummer from a previous life, who knows?

It really makes me uncomfortable that people pimp their kids out like this, but it seems to be the way things are now.

He is pretty good though, and may be a fine musician one day. You never know how that’s going to play out.

Is there anyway he can replace Lars, like... now? He's a better drummer, cuter, taller, and I'm guessing at 6 there's still hope he doesn't grow up to as big an ass as Lars. Sign that kid up.
