On the death of Google Reader.

This post was deleted for the following reason: This is pretty short and a little bit Buy My Book in tone and we've sort of talked about Google Reader a lot recently already. -- cortex

The author seems to be transposing the death of Google Reader with the death of RSS. The latter will happen at some point but it's not at all clear that it's imminent.

I didn't even use Google Reader all that much, and now its demise is making me all pig-bitin' mad. And he's right about the regressive nature of corporate internet media control.

Google Reader is/was a great product, and part of my sadness at its demise stems from the fact that I just don't know how to USE any of the Reader alternatives out there. It took me a solid two days to get into the groove of Feedly, but now that I am, I will still remember Reader fondly but will survive without it. If the day comes that RSS dies...that will be the sadder day indeed.

I don't understand why Google would unceremoniously kill Reader instead of rolling it into Google+. It would give me a reason to use Google+ and create continuity (or the illusion of continuity) for users.

JOIN ME ON THE DARK SIDE.

This is my problem. I've tried setting up Tiny Tiny RSS on a spare laptop and I get database errors. I try it on some web space and the directions I've been following seem incomplete. There's still almost three months to the fatal day but I'm starting to sweat.
