Real Dr. Light capsule from the Mega Man X series. A part of Gauntlet Gallery's "Mega Man Boss Battle" exhibit, at which Mega Man creator Keiji Inafune contributes an in-person drawing. posted by griphus (4 comments total) 2 users marked this as a favorite

Yeah! I went to the opening of this show and it was jam-packed, but when I passed by the capsule it was kind of at waist-height and nobody really noticed it. It blew me away. For most of the rest of the night there was a crowd three-deep staring at it. A great exhibition. I really enjoyed Regrets, Wind Man, and Barrell Caskett.

I love all the power-ups and incidental iconography from the Mega Man X and Zero series. There's something so tactile about the sprites - the heart power-ups, the E-Tanks, the Metools, even the debris from when you destroy an enemy.

Mets are great. They should totally team up with Goombas, Shyguys, Zoomers and Medusa Heads and start their own thing. Like Smash Bros., only a lot more sedately paced, and instead of smashing each other off the screen they'd just have a quiet sit-down and enjoy the birds and the breeze before the Heroes come in and kill them all again.

Fun fact #1:
The obnoxious grinning helicopter enemies from Mega Man are named Bunby Heli.

Fun fact #2:
The slow one-eyed enemies that go back and forth through the air between two points are Adhering Suzy.

Wow, the primitive graphics of the NES really didn't adequately convey the incredible sculptedness of Snake Man's buttocks.
