Dan Halloran (R-Queens) — who was arrested Tuesday as the suspected bag man in state Sen. Malcolm Smith’s alleged plot to buy his way onto the mayoral ticket — has been publicly flogged and lost a spear-throwing contest as part of his Theodish punishments. [wiki]

How interesting. Sucks that religions only tend to get any press coverage when one of their members commits a crime.

Why doesn't he go buy an office in Denmark, then?

I saw a flyer (well, a printed sheet of paper) from this dude up in Forest Hills, a part of Queens with a large Orthodox Jewish population. It had a photo of him in the corner and was in ALL CAPS AND TALKING ABOUT HOW AS THEIR REPRESENTATIVE DAN HALLORAN WOULD FIGHT RAMPANT ANTI-SEMITISM AND OTHER THREATS TO JEWRY.

IT WENT LIKE THAT FOR THE ENTIRE PAGE.

We don't have religious tests for office in the US and we shouldn't mock someone for their religious beliefs; just because they are not mainstream. The bribery is the only story that should matter here. Highlighting the rituals in his church as a means to mock and jeer at him is pretty shitty IMO.
