"After 50 years of pointing and clicking, we are celebrating the nearing end of the computer cursor with a music video where all our cursors can be seen together for one last time." (NSFW)

Browser check - This does not work in Chrome -- works in FireFox though :)

It has boobies.

Works in Chrome for me, but I had to turn off my Flash blocker.

Any way to fast forward?

Well, that was utterly insane. I wish they could remove a few of the really badly behaving cursors, like ones that don't move at all or something. But this is very cool. I would love to see this idea expanded upon.

Congrats to us for successfully forming a smiley face, though.

it does work in chrome

It works in my Chrome as well.

Actually, only notionally NSFW, since the nudity is censored, oddly, by the cursors.

Also, this was surprisingly great. The smiley face and avoid each other commands in particular.

Chrome on Mac was fine, and I have to say that was totally fun.

Am I the only one who waited in vain for something interesting to happen?

Yeah, the smiley face was great. Get off the nipples, cursors!

Well that's a terrifically inexpensive way for No Such Agency to collect some biometric data. Way to go, fiscally responsible spooks!

Americans; what can you do.

That was pretty cool, but is "nearing the end of the computer cursor" a new element of the usual "everyone will use videophones all the time and literacy will disappear entirely" or something? Because ha ha yeah right.

Using firefox, no flashblocker running. All I saw was a black screen with white words that changed periodically. I had a big cursor but I couldn't see anyone else's.

So if there was a crazy cursor doing crazy things that had no relation to any image, that is probably mine.

Good-bye cursor, big hello to "charms" and "live tiles"!!!

HEY. I had to disable Adblock, too.
posted by BlackLeotardFront at 11:26 AM on April 15, 2013

Disabling adblock did nothing for me. It would be strange for only some content on the page to be blocked by my work's net nanny, but I suppose that's possible.

Had some fun moments/intuitions. Roel Wouters, one of the founders of Moniker, the folks behind this, is worth checking out.

This also reminded me of that insane japanese(?) flash game where previous you-cum-cursors are instrumental to a group-solitary effort in navigating an effectively (so-to-speak) 4-D maze - what was that?

You're probably thinking of Yoshio Ishii's Cursor * 10. There's also a part 2.

I don't understand :(

Is this generated from the cursors of people who watch the video? Or is it... what?

I feel dumb.

They check your gender at the beginning. Wonder if they are gathering statistics and, if so, what the correlation is between male user/boobs left exposed and female user/boobs get covered. Also, would be interesting to have folks run it without seeing the cursors placed by past users to get an idea of how much a pack mentality is influencing decisions; I felt like this must be what it's like to be a member of a flock of starlings or a school of fish.

All I got was a lot of cursors on a black background, some solid, some outlined. None ever moved. One big cursor for me which did nothing but blink if I clicked it. And there were sometimes words at the top. Firefox v20.

Last I checked we are a long way off from giving up cursors. At the very least mmo players still use them and I don't see that stopping in the foreseeable future.
