A great singer/songwriter you've likely never heard

Lianne Smith (no relation to the murderer) is a Brooklyn-based singer/songwriter. She was a member of the great lost trio Shackwacky, and aside from solo gigs also appeared frequently in Joe Hurley’s revue shows and the Losers Lounge. After more than 20 years of fans begging her to record a CD, she finally did, with the help of Anton Fier, Tony Scherr, Neill Furio, and others. She says her music “dispenses with the panoramic shot in favor of zooming in on the bee and the flower. Grown-up songs about architecture, thieves, bicycles, the end of summer, and two roads that diverge in a wood.” Listen (and buy, if you choose) to Two Sides of a River.

She's a friend of mine. Happy to see her acknowledged here.

Lianne's a buddy of mine as well. Her album was worth the wait and is well worth checking out by the uninitiated.

No comment on her music, but has Metafilter really stooped to this? A blatant ad.

It's one thing to say she has great music; it's another to make the FPP into a suggested sale.

Was not meant as an ad. I really like her music. Was pointing out that on her Bandcamp page you can listen FOR FREE, or buy if you want.

I was informed just now that you're not supposed to post about someone you know as if you didn't know her personally.

Perhaps the poster wasn't aware of that rule either.

If a mod wants to delete this that is fine. I was not aware of that rule, but didn't post as if I didn't know her; I just didn't mention it.
