Layton Kor, one of the world's most prolific and admired rock climbers, has died.
Layton Kor died on April 21 at the age of 74 after battling kidney failure and prostrate cancer. Layton's first ascents blanket every corner of Colorado, the desert southwest, and Yosemite, including many of the most distinguished routes in the world, e.g., Yellow Wall on Longs Peak, The Naked Edge in Eldorado Canyon, Yellow Spur in Eldorado Canyon, Kor-Ingalls Route on Castleton Tower, Finger of Fate in the Fisher Towers, West Butress on El Capitan.
Cameron Burns, Kor's biographer, said, “If Layton got a nickel for every person who ever climbed one of his routes, he’d have been a wealthy man.”

Bummer. I heard many a story of epic climbs from one of his former climbing partners. RIP Layton

So true. I was worried since there's nothing about the cause above the fold. Some of the greats are still around.

Absolutely. It's easy to forget how difficult striking new routes can be compared to established climbing.

That seems unlikely, unless prostrate cancer is something you get from sleeping on your stomach.

Gravity is a very natural cause of death for a rock climber.
