BBC News Online 'AIDS around the World" special section The numbers, displayed by region, and with links to relevant stories. I find it's the numbers that bring so much of the reality home.

Another good New York Times series, "Death and Denial", "about the H.I.V. epidemic in South Africa and one ravaged community, Hlabisa," where 35 percent of adults are infected with H.I.V.

And this from Reuters gives results of the latest U.N. report. Countries of the former Soviet bloc now face the world's fastest growing infection rate, though "Asian nations like Cambodia and Thailand have drastically lowered HIV rates with large-scale prevention campaigns."
