Canberra, Australia is celebrating its 100th anniversary, where sculptor Patricia Piccinini--a giant sky whale balloon, 23m high and 34m wide, using 3.5km of fabric.
There's a bit of controversy, and not just because of the skywhale's ten pendulous mammaries, since tax funds were used for the commission, and more than initially reported. Even with those funds spent, the city doesn't own the balloon. Others are supportive of the endeavor. You can follow the love, hate, indifference, and memes the skywhale is engendering in real time on Twitter at #skywhale.
