I've been to 1972. It wasn't a lot of fun.

I agree. I spent most of 1972 shitting in my pants.

Batman would spend his later years battling a new, even more sinister enemy: Emphysema.

This is cool, But I can't figure out what's going on. Is this just an artist's concept, or is this a real project that is actually "coming soon"?

I suspect it's a follow up to the recent Batman 1966 digital-only comic.

Or not. Second link seems to show it's a fan project; depends what he means when he calls it a "pitch."

So, apparently Catwoman is dead at the moment. No, I don't particularly care or expect it to stick either.

As the artist (Francesco Francavilla) has actually worked on Detective Comics, he's more than a fan. No one is better placed to make such a pitch.
Looks great, especially Jim Gordon.

Interstate'76 was one of the best games of the 90s; it captured the era perfectly and was the right mix of simulator and arcade game for its mechanic and goals.
What I am saying is that Arkham City was shite, and I would play the fuck out of Batman'72.

Picturing a movie with the aesthetics of the Beastie Boys video for Sabotage makes me a million kinds of happy.

You know how drag queens say that they're not trying to be real women, they're trying to be their idealized fantasy of women? Stuff like this is 1970s drag.

Catwoman and Riddler but no Joker, Penguin, Bane or Ra's Al Ghul? This concept still needs a lot of fleshing out.
And I don't see any logical path between Batman 1966 (the Adam West version) and this.
But I can imagine Robin gone Totally Disco (although '72 is a little early for it)

I love this. Life on Gotham. Batman gets run over when Robin accidentally throws the Batmobile in reverse and he wakes up in 1972.

Come on, it's obvious. This is the "serious" spinoff the network made to compete with "Mannix" and "MacMillan and Wife". In fact, The New Batman Mystery Hour airs alternately with those, and "Columbo".

To be clear, 1972 is as much Disco as 2001 was Facebook. Different eras entirely.

This is the seven year old kid who believed in Adam West Batman now thirteen and gone all cynical. At least, that's how it was for me. Though truth be told, I just gave up Batman altogether. Not just a comic book character, comical.

I'm so very disappointed the rumor that Rocksteady was making a Silver-Age Batman sequel turned out to be wrong.

Francavilla's "The Black Beetle" is one of my favourite comics right now - he nails the pulp/Shadow vibe really well. I think he'd pull The Batman comic back to it's roots, and maybe influence future issues/ideas. I'll admit I'm biased as The Shadow has always been a hit with me - a few neat powers and/or gadgets and a lot of menace and heavy plots. And style, oh so much style. Maybe that's what a lot of comics lack for me, these days. If this becomes a real series, he's got my money.
