In-vitro meat hits the shelves this month... will it take off? Lab grown grill meat, eh? Available OTC? Ok I'll give it a try but I won't lie, I'll be nervous about it!
This post was deleted for the following reason: This is kind of a short news-of-the-weird blurb, maybe there's some more substantial content out there if this merits a post? -- cortex
A hamburger patty made from lab-grown meat — or "schmeat" — is expected to be unveiled and grilled later this month at an event in London that is highly anticipated by animal rights activists and other backers.
They obviously didn't spend any of that €250,000 on marketing.

I'll eat it, but only if they can assure me no scientist on the team used GMO grains.

"The vision for this burger is really to attract support, to attract funding," said social sciences researcher Neil Stephens in an interview with CBC's The Current host Anna Maria Tremonti. "And I'm sure it will because it's a very enticing idea for many people."Between this and James Somers, I sort of want to push some people into a ditch witch.

You're just about the perfect person to rep for "schmeat". Don't mess this up and you'll be up to your elbows in vat chops. I mean "vat schops".

I totally can't decide how I feel about this, but I'm leaning towards "repulsed". But I feel that way when I think about regular meat, too...

As is often the case Urban Dictionary provides:
Schmeat is the result of the marriage between the German Surname SCHMITT and the English word MEAT. It is a dick joke of Western Pennsylvanian origin.

They had to call it schmeat, because, well, Spam.
I also suspect it will be best to eat it with a Spork.

There are 4 big reasons to be vegetarian:
1) Cost
2) Environmental impact (the calorific efficiency of the sunshine->meat->human chain is pretty damn low)
3) Ethics (to what extent do animals have rights?)
4) Health
Vat grown meat has the opportunity to eliminate #3 and reduce #2 and #1. Anyone in those categories may switch back or may switch from being a "reluctant carnivore" (i.e. can't get by without meat, but would like to) to being a "green carnivore".
