Believed to be the latest victim of the country's crime wave, she was found in her apartment.

This BBC story has more information. Aside from the crime (yes, that's a BIG aside), I'm bemused by the classic triangle: male politician divorces wife of many years to marry a younger woman.

south africa beats america at...
murder.
An estimated 21,000 people were reported murdered last year in SA, in the US a *mere* 17,000 (est.) murders.
SA has a population of 41m, the us 280m.
With AIDS infection rates at 10% in SA, I cannot imagine what it must be like to live (with much luck) through this.
