SCTV pioneered the concept of blowing up actresses back in the 80's with the Farm Film Celebrity Blow Up.
Their motto is "We blow up anybody regardless of their race, creed or talent."

The exploding head thing is irresistibly funny. Even as I wondered if there was some hardcore latent misogyny driving the project I couldn't stop laughing at it. And the digital background replacing effects are really impressive.

why is this good?

Because it reaches the pinnacle of pointless gratuitous violence and then ups it a notch.

It's every cigar Bugs Bunny ever lit for Daffy Duck.

It does seem oddly specific but honestly it may simply be making up for a bias towards male exploding heads in actual movies.

We need another set of these where the people live but the dog always gets it.

This is especially good if you follow the steps to the tumblr and the one non-beheadment entry within.

Come to think of it we need them to take on the Thin Man movies and make Asta blow up in the background all the time. I think I'd even pay for that.

I don't really know why this is so funny but I do know that I laughed so much at these and at Simba that my partner was sort of confused. He apparently has not seen me laugh that much before. Granted, I am a bit punchy.

Totally stupidly funny. When I saw Belle, I thought, "No! Not Belle! She was the smart one!" followed by - "oh. that will do."

It's funny partially because you're meant to have seen these movies and know that the reaction in the deli in When Harry Met Sally is to Sally's orgasm simulation, not her head getting blown off, and yet it works.

And Baby's father starts to get up in Dirty Dancing because he doesn't want Baby dancing with low class Johnny in front of, like everyone, , but in this video he's like, "my daughter's head got blown off, I'm getting up!" and his wife is like, "shh honey let them be."

Etc, that's why I think it's funny. I could see a case for misogyny but not really. It's more comedy of the shocking and unexpected.

Well, you don't expect pretty ladies to blow up. The incongruity makes it funnier.

I felt the same way. This is especially true in the Cinderella one, where it goes from an enchanting spell that makes her into a beautiful princess into an old lady wizard who shows up, casts a spell that changes her clothes, and then makes her head explode and disappears. I didn't really get a misogyny vibe from it either.
