PETA, the People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals mostly known for their vegetarian campaigns involving naked women, also operates a kill shelter in Virginia which euthanizes over 2000 cats and dogs a year.

Not surprising. It is PETA's goal to end the practice of pet ownership. Kill shelters are definitely an expedient means to that end.
